Our Stories: Meet Lisa

Lisa is 44-years-old and has advancing Multiple Sclerosis (MS). She has significant care needs and lives at home with her parents, who also have MS. After multiple surgeries, severe chronic symptoms, mental health challenges and a permanent colostomy bag and catheter, Lisa is unable to work or walk. Deborah, Lisa’s mom, says, “Through the Medicaid/PCA waiver Lisa now receives assistance with bathing, getting dressed and transferring into a lift chair in her living room.”
During a recent visit, CCC Care Manager Kara Carey noticed that her electric lift chair wasn’t working properly. “Lisa is non-ambulatory, so when the chair malfunctions, she is unable to get in or out of the chair,” her mom said. “The lift chair not only helps Lisa transfer, but it allows her the opportunity to be in the living room where she can visit and socialize with her family and friends.” With that in mind, Kara took the extra step to request CCC donor funding to help Lisa receive a new chair.
“Kara, the new chair is gorgeous,” said Deborah. “It has so many more features than the others we’ve had which will make it so much better for the pain in Lisa’s neck and back. I don’t know what to say…we appreciate it so very much. Thank you.”
