Our New Beginnings Challenge
We understand, and have seen how quality care, compassion and the power of a person’s own resilience contributes to happy, healthy lives at home. Our New Beginning Challenge is our annual call for support from key stakeholders like you. With your support, funds will go directly toward meeting unexpected needs or new opportunities for those who need it most. When a loved one needs help to stay healthy and safe at home, Connecticut Community Care is your starting point. Spark a new beginning in someone’s life today!
“I have eight children, 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. They make my life worth living. But 30 years ago, I almost lost my life.” When Margaret was hit by a drunk driver, she broke her neck and hasn’t walked since. Doctors told her she would have significant limitations forever. Persistence Cultivates a New Beginning Determined to be as independent as possible, Margaret was persistent. She convinced her doctors to let her go home where she relearned how to do everything, in her own new way. When her husband died, she moved in with her daughter. She got assistance so her children could live their own lives, and she could live hers, outside of a nursing home. Margaret refused to be idle and found a new way to work everyday. She began watching several of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Soon, she was watching other children, too. Today, she still watches five or more children at a time. She loves to read and is writing a book. She goes to the senior center three days a week. She also inspires others who have had setbacks in life and want to give up. “I say, whatever has happened to you, it’s not the end of your life. There’s so much to live for. Be persistent.”
